How to Plan a Sedona Wellness Getaway: Spiritual Spots & Wellness Retreats

Tucked among towering red rocks and canyons, Sedona is considered one of the top spiritual destinations in the U.S., and for good reason. Every year, thousands of visitors come here not just for the scenery, but for the feeling they get from Sedona’s natural beauty, spiritual experiences and wellness retreats.

Whether you’re craving a weekend of yoga and meditation, curious about crystal healing or sound baths, or simply want to breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself, Sedona offers an escape from the hustle.

Sedona Wellness

The word “spiritual” is defined as something that affects your soul. So in that sense Sedona is a spiritual place. It was special long before the phrase “vortex” was used.

It is a spiritual place, not because of the vortexes but because of the awe inspiring red rock formations found throughout the area and Oak Creek. In addition, many love Sedona for being a top wellness destination.

Spirituality comes in many forms. In Sedona your spiritual journey can take you down many paths. Some of the things we enjoyed doing included visiting Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park, lighting a candle at the Chapel of the Holy Cross, visiting a vortex site, visiting Palatki heritage site.

I’ve had my aura read a few times at Mystical Bazaar and my chakras balanced on another visit. In addition to these soulful stops Sedona offers many wellness retreats.

Soulful Stops: Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park

At the base of Thunder Mountain in Sedona, Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park is peaceful place to hike or meditate. If you’re craving a quiet moment of reflection Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park is just the kind of place to slow down and take it all in.

Peace park in Sedona

This peaceful park sits tucked into the red rocks on Sedona’s west side, surrounded by piñon pines, dusty walking paths, and the hum of desert stillness. At the heart of the park stands a 36-foot Tibetan stupa, a symbol of compassion and peace.

You can walk the meditative path around it, spin the prayer wheels, or take a walk around. Whether you’re spiritual, curious, or just looking for a hidden gem in Sedona, this place welcomes everyone.

Chapel of the Holy Cross

See the Chapel of the Holy Cross. One of the most photographed spots in Sedona is the Chapel of the Holy Cross.

It is a Roman Catholic Chapel in Sedona. The chapel is 250 feet high and was designed by Marguerite Brunswig Staude, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Built into the buttes of Sedona’s famous red rock, it has a commanding presence. You can tour the church and admire the incredible views of the two nuns rock formation, Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Courthouse Butte.

It is free to walk around the grounds and visit the church. There is a gift shop at the bottom of the stairs.

Parking is limited here. There are a few parking spots off the main road if the parking lot is full. Just take a short hike up to the top. The tour is self guided and the views alone are worth a stop.

How to Get to Chapel of the Holy Cross

Chapel of the Holy Cross is just off of Highway 179A. If coming from Phoenix take Highway 179 north for 12 miles. Turn right at the Chapel Hill roundabout. It is before you get to the Y roundabout in Sedona.

If coming from uptown Sedona you’ll take Highway 179 south for about 3 miles and turn left at the Chapel Hill roundabout. The chapel will be .5 mile on your left.

Sedona Vortex

Sedona is famous for its stunning red rocks and many believe certain spots have vortex energy. These swirling centers of natural energy are said to enhance meditation, healing, and self-reflection.

If you’re curious about what a vortex really is, how to find them, and which trails are worth the hike, I’ve put together a blog post about this at: Sedona Vortex Hikes: Short Trails with Big Energy Even if you don’t believe in vortexes, these are some pretty hikes.

Palatki Heritage

If you’re exploring Sedona with a heart open to ancient wisdom and spiritual connection, the Palatki Heritage Site offers an unforgettable experience. Nestled among crimson cliffs the site features cliff dwellings built by the Sinagua people and a breathtaking collection of pictographs and petroglyphs.

Connect With Nature

Whether you love the red rocks, forests or water I find connecting with nature is one of the most peaceful and spiritual experiences. If you hike around you can find your own peaceful spot. My favorite Sedona wellness routine is to find a peaceful spot on Oak Creek and listen to the water.
