Sedona Scenic Drives: Which One Should You Take?
Sedona for non-hikers is still an incredible adventure. You don’t need to scramble up cliffs or trek through canyons to experience the magic of those red rock vistas.
In fact, one of my favorite ways to soak it all in is by hopping in the car, rolling down the windows, and just driving. If you’re looking for the perfect way to explore Sedona without hiking I’m sharing my favorite drives in Sedona.
Let’s map out a perfect day of cruising through the heart of Arizona’s red rock country!

Why Take a Scenic Drive?

Take a scenic drive if you have limited time, you’re wanting to see a lot without having to hike or your travel partner doesn’t want to hike. A scenic drive allows you to stop at overlooks and take lots of photos. A scenic drive can be a relaxing afternoon or an adventure if you take a jeep tour.

Red Rock Scenic Byway
If you’re short on time but big on views, this is the drive for you. The Red Rock Scenic Byway also known as State Route 179 is a quick but breathtaking route that runs from the Village of Oak Creek up to Sedona.
You will see iconic red rock formations such as Bell Rock, Courthouse Butte and Cathedral Rock. There are plenty of pull-offs for photos so bring your camera, because you’re going to want to capture this.

Oak Creek Canyon Drive – Sedona to Flagstaff Scenic Route
This one’s a classic. Starting in uptown Sedona, Highway 89A takes you on a scenic rollercoaster through Oak Creek Canyon, all the way to Flagstaff.
You’ll wind through forests of sycamore and pine, past secret swimming holes, picnic areas, and some of my all-time favorite camping spots.

If you’re up for a little exploring, check out West Fork Trail or simply stop at one of the many overlooks for a picnic with a view.

This short, sweet drive is a photographer’s dream. You’ll pass Red Rock State Park, Crescent Moon Ranch, and plenty of spots to stretch your legs or take a few snapshots.
It’s a great way to explore Sedona without hiking—just you, your car, and those red rocks.
