Where to Stay in Sedona
You can choose from hotels, motels, resorts, cabins, and camp sites in Sedona and Oak Creek. Due to the traffic congestion, I recommend choosing where to stay based on the areas you plan on spending the most time in and what type of vacation you’re looking for.
In this post I will refer to the “Y” when providing directions. The “Y” is one of the most congested driving areas in Sedona.
It’s the main intersection (roundabout) in town where Highway 179 meets Highway 89A.

I like to stay at Los Abrigados Resort behind the Tlaquepaque Shopping Center because it is a short walk to several restaurants, shops and in a central location (about a mile from uptown). The grounds are pretty and feel tucked away from the shopping areas.

How to Choose Which Area of Sedona to Stay At
Choose a place to stay based on what you plan on doing while in Sedona. How much peace and quiet are you looking for? Luxury or budget? Also consider how much driving you want to do.
West Side Downtown Sedona
Do you plan on spending most of your time hiking Devil’s Bridge, Fay Canyon or Boynton Canyon? You may want to stay on the west side of Sedona. It’s less walkable, but there are a lot of restaurants and you’re close to a ton of hiking opportunities.
Uptown Sedona
If you want to be in the thick of it and plan on spending a lot of time at the shops and restaurants or north of 89A it makes sense to stay in uptown.
Oak Creek Canyon
If you’re looking for a little more solitude north of uptown near Slide Rock State Park. You will need to drive to any attractions, and restaurants.
Oak Creek Village
Are you spending most of your time hiking around Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock or Courthouse Butte?
If so, staying in Oak Creek might be the best fit for you. Just keep in mind the traffic going into Sedona is usually heavy between Oak Creek and uptown Sedona.
Sedona Campgrounds
Most campgrounds in Sedona will require advanced reservations. If you want to stay on a weekend it is very common to reserve a camping or RV spot 6+ months prior. During my camping years I loved staying on Oak Creek in Sedona. Planning ahead is worth it to stay at these beautiful camp sites. Our favorite campgrounds in Arizona includes several campgrounds in the area.

Uptown Sedona
If you want to be in the hub of activity where you can easily walk to shops and restaurants, uptown Sedona has several hotels to choose from. To put it in perspective the start of uptown to the end is about .8 mile. All of the hotels below are within walking distance to uptown.
- Hyatt at Pinon Point is right at the start of uptown and is on a hill behind the Pinon Point shopping center.
- L’Auberge de Sedona is just as you enter uptown on the opposite side of the Pinon Point shopping center. You will drive down towards the creek. Note: There are no sidewalks to connect the resort to uptown and your walk would be uphill.
- The Star Motel at the next roundabout is a good no frills budget choice. It is off of the roundabout on Jordan.
- The Cliffs Sedona hotel. When you enter uptown you’ll see a sidewalk on your right with viewing spots, once you pass this area the Pink Jeep tours office and trading post shops will be on your right. Just right of the roundabout you’ll turn to find The Cliffs Sedona hotel. It is down behind this shopping area.
- Arroyo Roble Resort is behind the Sinagua plaza. You would take a right at the plaza to the resort.
- Best Western is towards the end of Uptown, next to the Sinagua plaza. It is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants in uptown.

- The La Petite Sedona Hotel is at the very end of uptown right before the final roundabout. About .8 of a mile from the start of uptown.
Working your way back from the end of uptown towards the beginning but on the opposite side of the street you can find the following places to stay. Matterhorn Inn is right on the main drag across the street from the Best Western.

- Sedona Uptown Suites is not far from the main street, but it isn’t on the main street. It is .2 miles to 89A, the main street through uptown. It is right behind Elote Cafe.
