Sedona Heritage Museum: Explore Sedona’s History

If you want to understand how Sedona became the place you see today, spend a little time at the Sedona Heritage Museum. This small museum tells the stories of the people, ranchers, and early settlers who shaped Sedona. If you like knowing the stories behind the places you visit, make time for this Sedona stop.

Sedona Heritage Museum

The Jordans built the original one-room cabin in 1931. Over the years the family added on and it has been at its current size since 1947.

The tour is DIY, you can download an app to listen to the history. I recommend earbuds, so you can block out the noise from other visitors and hear the stories better.

The museum shares stories of Sedona’s homesteading families, Hollywood westerns filmed in this town. You’ll also find out who Sedona Schnebly was.

On the grounds you’ll find old wagons, antique tools, the apple packing shed and a replica tent house that early families lived in as they built their homes.

I found the tent house fascinating. This temporary dwelling was just one room that pioneer families would live in while they were building their permanent homestead.

The Schuerman family had orchards and vineyards. They would make wine, Red Rock Grape Juice and sell the wine to people in Jerome.

Visit the Telegraph Office. This is not the office’s original location. It was moved here and restored. Now it houses movie memorabilia.

The best part in my opinion is the view from behind the building. After you’ve explored the history inside take a look behind the building.
