Chapel of the Holy Cross

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is worth a stop even if you aren’t particularly interested in churches. Built into Sedona’s red rocks, this unusual 1950s building combines modern architecture, local history, and some of the best views you can get without hiking a trail.

If you’re looking for a change of pace, something to do in Sedona without a hike and you’re interested in history and architecture then I would suggest adding the Chapel of the Holy Cross to your things to do in Sedona list.

Why Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross?

The famous Chapel of the Holy Cross in Sedona sits 250 feet above the road built into the red rocks.

The Chapel of the Holy Cross is one of the few places where you can experience Sedona’s landscape, architecture, and history in about 30–60 minutes without hiking.

Marguerite Brunswig Staude, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright and a local rancher in Sedona originally planned on building this chapel in Budapest. Due to World War II, the chapel ended up in her hometown of Sedona. It has been a landmark and a tourist destination in the town since 1956.
