The Hole in the Rock Hike is one of the most popular trails at Papago Park. It’s short, sweet, and scenic. The path starts out as a smooth gravel trail that turns into a short staircase carved right into the sandstone.

In just a few minutes, you’re climbing into a natural rock chamber with wide openings that look out over the Phoenix skyline and surrounding desert.

Whether you’re an early riser catching sunrise or someone squeezing in a little fresh air before dinner, the views from the top are stunning. The hike itself is less than a quarter mile, making it doable for just about everyone—from toddlers to retirees looking for a laid-back walk with a view.
