Jewel of the Creek Preserve

If you want a scenic quick hike the Jewel of the Creek Preserve is one of our favorite hikes in the Phoenix area. This is a kid-friendly and dog-friendly hike. Dogs must be on a leash.

There are three short trails in the Preserve.

• Barrier Free Harry Dalton Trail Loop
• Dragonfly Trail Loop
• Harry Dalton Trail Loop

Where is Jewel of the Creek Preserve & How to Get There

Jewel of the Creek Preserve is in Cave Creek, Arizona. From Phoenix take I-10 to AZ-51 North for about 20 miles and then take exit 15b for AZ-101 West. Take the first exit for Cave Creek Road and turn right onto this road.

Drive on Cave Creek Road road for 12 miles into the town of Cave Creek. Turn left onto North Spur Cross Road, turn right on Grapevine and then your next left to stay on North Spur Cross Road. Drive for around 4 miles the Jewel of the Creek Preserve parking lot will be on your left.

Barrier Free Harry Dalton Trail Loop

From the parking lot follow the Barrier Free Harry Dalton Trail for a third of a mile. If you continue straight on the path it runs straight into Dragonfly Trail Loop.

Dragonfly Trail Loop

The path is just over a mile. Half way through the hike you’ll cross the creek. Follow the creek to the Harry Dalton Trail loop.

There is a footbridge to cross the creek and continue the trail loop.

Harry Dalton Trail Loop

The Harry Dalton Trail Loop is just over a half mile loop. You’ll cross Cave Creek and walk next to mesquites and towering Saguaros.
